Emergency Response Support System

Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) is a Pan-India single number (112) based emergency response system for citizens in emergencies. The Emergency Response Centre is capable of receiving emergency calls through voice call to 112, email, panic buttons activated calls and 112 India mobile App.

112 is a globally recognized single emergency number, adopted by most of European countries, common wealth nations and mapped to emergency numbers in USA and Canada. Most of Phone handsets are manufactured with pre-programmed 112 as emergency number to be dialed with single key press. TRAI allotted this number for the purpose of single emergency number in India in May 2015.

Utility to the citizens

If you require emergency assistance from Police, Fire or Health departments or from any other services, you may:

  • Dial 112 from your phone;
  • If you have a smart phone, Press power button on your smart phone 3 times in quick succession to activate Panic call;
  • If you have a feature phone, Long press ‘5’ or ‘9’ key on your feature phone to activate Panic call;
  • Use 112 India mobile app (available in Google Playstore and Apple store) to activate a panic call.
  • For women and children, 112 India App provides a special SHOUT feature which alerts registered volunteers in the vicinity of victim for immediate assistance.
  • Log on to State ERSS website and place your SOS request;

112 India mobile app

112 Mobile App is a part of the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), a Govt of India initiative. In an emergency situation, a person in distress may seek for the assistance of local emergency service delivery departments and volunteers through the App.

The App will send emergency alerts with the user's details(name, age, emergency contacts) and location information, along with a generated call to ‘112’ - to the State Emergency Control Room and the person’s emergency contacts. The system forwards the emergency alert to nearby online local volunteers if available. The emergency alert is notified with an audible sound/ visual alert on the volunteer smartphones. The volunteers can mark their consent to help and the volunteer details along with photo and contact number will be forwarded to the person in distress.

  • Citizens can request help through Voice Call, SOS, SMS, Email, Web Request and Panic buttons.
  • Automatic location identification of the caller/victim.
  • Dynamic emergency response service from the nearest emergency response vehicle.
  • Service from Police, Fire, Medical and Natural Disaster Management Teams.
  • Emergency service coordination from a centralized control center in State capital/UTs.
  • Improves decision making in emergency situation which minimizes response time.
  • Live tracking of emergency response vehicles.
