The following topics help you to access and use the portal effectively.

Sections of this Portal

The portal provides information related to six verticals/domains - Agriculture, Health, Education, e-Governance, Social welfare and Energy. A catalogue of national and state-specific schemes and information on Aspirational districts is also provided. A brief summary of the information provided under each vertical / domain is given below.

Agriculture

The Agriculture section covers agricultural credit, policies and schemes, production technologies, animal husbandry and fisheries, weather and market information, best practices, on and off-farm enterprises and a database of agricultural institutions.

Health

The Health section focuses on women and child health besides various other topics such as sanitation, common diseases, policies and schemes, first aid and mental health.

Education

The education section provides learning resources to children and teachers covering the aspects of Child rights and quality education.

e-Governance

The e-Governance section provides one-stop information access to available online citizen services, state-specific e-Governance initiatives, mobile governance, RTI etc.

Social Welfare

The social welfare section provides information related to women and child development, the welfare of scheduled castes and tribes, minorities, disabled and senior citizens, poverty alleviation and disaster management.

Energy

The energy section provides information on technologies, best practices, policies and schemes and databases related to energy conservation, improved energy efficiency and enhanced energy production from renewable sources.

Digital catalogue of schemes

A digital catalogue of government schemes - both central and state, is provided in Vikaspedia to enable the citizens to be aware and know their eligibility to access these schemes. A criteria-based search of schemes is also provided for citizens to check their eligibility for various government schemes.

Aspirational districts

The section provides information related to 112 Aspirational districts of the country. The Aspirational district's programme aims to transform and develop the backward districts of the country,

Using Search Facility

The search functionality helps users to access the content of their requirements quickly. It is available on each and every page of the portal. A search of the portal topics is also made available. Please note that the search facility helps to search the portal content only and not that of the internet.

Users can search the portal using the following valid inputs in the search box:

• Specific letters or a word/phrase.
• Space between the words/phrases.
• Operators (like and, or) among the words.

Live Search

Live Search functionality enhances the power of search in the portal. While typing the letters in the search box, the whole search simplifies and submits all possible matches in the search widget. This live feedback on searching makes finding content much faster and more effective.

User roles in the portal

Whatever is existing in the portal has been made possible by people who volunteered to contribute information, images, files and any other data in the area of their expertise. The portal supports 4 distinct types of users:

• Anonymous (Guest) User
• Registered Member
• Content Contributor
• Content Reviewer

The following sections describe in brief the privileges of each type of user:

Anonymous User

As an anonymous user, you can

• Browse content
• Search Content
• Rate a Page
• Scroll down to the end of the page
• Click on a ‘Star’ for that page in the ‘Page Rating’ section
• Provide suggestions / Comments for a Page
• Scroll down to the end of the page
• Enter your Name and suggestions in the ‘Post Your Suggestion’ section
• Click on 'Submit'
• Provide ‘Feedback’ on the portal
• Click on ‘Give your Feedback’ on the Home Page
• Enter your Name, email-id and the feedback
• Click on Submit
• Become a Member or a Content Contributor
• Click on 'Register' at the top right-hand corner
• Choose the option – Member or Content Contributor (CC)
• Fill in the details
• Click on ‘Register’

Registered Member

As a registered member, you get all the above privileges of an anonymous user. In addition, you can:

• Update your profile
• Click on your username displayed at the top right end
• Click on the ‘Profile’ from the drop-down list
• Your profile is displayed and you can make the relevant changes
• Have pre-filled forms (your name and email id will be pre-filled) when you register your comment/feedback in the portal.

Content Contributor

As a content contributor, you get all the above privileges of a registered member. In addition, you can:

• Add content pages
• You can add a new page in the domain that you are approved as Content-Contributor
• Please click on the “Create New Page” option available on the menu page under which you want to add the new page
• Enter the ‘Title’, 'Summary’ and minimum '3 keywords' related to the content for the page and start entering the content in ‘Body Text’
• You can add textual content, images, files and audio-video visuals to the Vikaspedia portal.
• Click on 'Save’ to upload the page

• Edit content pages
• You can edit the pages in the domain that you are approved as Content-Contributor
• Please check for the state of the page in the top right corner of the “grey band”; You can edit the pages which are in “Open for Edit” or “Review in Process” states
• Click on 'Edit' and an 'Edit' window will be displayed; Make the relevant changes
• Click 'Save’ to save the updated page

• If you are a consistent contributor of published content in the Vikaspedia portal, you can become a Content Reviewer, by requesting the portal administrator.

Content Reviewer

As a Content reviewer, you get all the above privileges of a Content Contributor. In addition, you can:

• View the newly added/modified pages that are pending review, in the domains in which you have been approved as a Content reviewer.
• Click on your username displayed at the top right end
• Click on the ‘manage pages; from the drop-down list
• All pages that have been added/ underwent change/expired/Private pages are listed.
• Review pages
• Click on your username displayed at the top right end
• Click on the ‘Manage Pages’ from the drop-down list
• Select the "New pages / Modified pages"
• Review the newly added content/contents that underwent changes.
• On completion of the review process, the state of the page is changed from "Review in process" to "Open for edit".

Accessibility options

Text size Icons

Following different options are provided in the form of icons which are available on the top of each page:

• Decrease Text(A-): Allows you to decrease text size by 2 levels.
• Normal Text(A): Allows you to set the default text size.
• Increase Text(A+): Allows you to increase the text size by 2 levels.

Contrast options

The following different options are provided in the form of icons which are available on the top of each page. This feature fixes the text colour as either black or white, depending on the original text colour.

Share (Social media or email) / Print Content

The information provided by this Web site is available in HTML and Portable Document Format (PDF). To view the information properly, your browser needs to have the required plug-ins or software. In case your system does not have this software; you can download it from the Internet for free. You can share a content topic link with others through social media or as a link through Email, by clicking on the "Share button" available in the grey bar. You can also print the information on a page, by clicking the print option.
