Simdega district ranks 22nd in terms of total population in the state and twentieth century with a sex ratio of 1000 in relation to population growth rate (2001–11) in fourteen districts. The district consists of ten blocks, Simdega, Pakartar, Kurdeg, Kersai, Bolba, Typitagar, Kolebira, Jaladega, Bansjor and Bano. 

As per Census 2011, 451 villages and 1 city have been distributed in two assembly constituencies in the district. The Census 2011 data indicated that the percentage share of scheduled caste population in the total population was 7.45 percent while that of scheduled tribe was 70.78 percent. The Scheduled Tribe population was 70.78 percent based on the total number of rural households. The total area of ​​Simdega district is 3761.20 sq km.

River

The major rivers of this region are Shankha, Dev, Girwa and Palamara. Some of these rivers are the main river of Sankh district.

Forest

Simdega district has 32% forest area. Sal trees, cocoons, lacquer, kendu leaves, karanj, chiras etc. are the important trees among the important forest products. Sal, Bija, Ghamar, Jackfruit, Jamun, Mango, Bamboo, Neem etc.

Sports Activities

Simdega district is called the "nursery of the game". The district has established a milestone in hockey. Football is also played in Simdega. There are many hockey players who have played for the country. They are: Michael Kindo (Olympian), Silanus Dungdung (Olympian), Kanti Ba, Masira Surin, Sumarai Tete, Justin Careketta, Vimal Lakda, Virendra Lakda, Aidan Careketta, Asunta Lakra, Alma Goodia, Pushpa Toppo, Sunita, James Careketta, Aashrita Lakda etc.
