Success Story for “Low Cost Mobile Tower” in Kandhamal District

The problem

Due to hilly and undulating topography most of the villages including Gram Panchayat headquarters are deprived of mobile connectivity. Dadaki GP under Phulbani Block is one such Gram Panchayat among others situated only 8 km away from district Headquarter, Phulbani.

People in this area have been demanding for construction of a Mobile Tower since last 10 years. In the past BSNL had tried to establish a Mobile Network but it could not materialize. Being deprived of the basic facility, many a time villagers staged dharana and protests by blocking the road which created law and order situation in the GP. 

The solution 

To have a stock of the situation and to pacify the angry mob BDO, Phulbani along with SDO, BSNL proceeded to the site. After having prolonged discussion with the villagers they could not convince them. BSNL promised to provide 1-2 Micro BTS if Block Office can arrange to erect a small tower with uninterrupted power supply.

With this basic arrangement BDO, Phulbani assured the villagers of providing Mobile Network connectivity within 15 days and started the work of building the mobile tower by using unused pipes and constructed a 60 ft. tower from GP fund. An inverter was  procured to supply un interrupted power supply to the tower. With the help of villagers the tower was erected and villagers were connected to world within 10 days. Now 90 % areas of this GP are being covered with the Mobile Network through this innovative venture.

Inspired by the success of Mobile Tower at Dadaki, district administration with active support of concerned BDOs have brought the mobile connectivity loop by erecting the Mobile Towers at some other inaccessible areas like Pakari and Kandibadi GP under Phiringia block, Bastingia GP of Chakapada block, Sainipada GP of K. Nuagaon block, Pakari GP of Kotagarh Blocks and Tilori GP of Daringbadi block.  General public of these GPs have expressed their happiness to thedistrict administration for connecting them to the world.
