Places to visit in Pakur District

Siddhu-Kanhu murmu Park

Siddhu-Kanhu murmu Park, situated behind SDO Bungalow & in front of Deputy Commissioner’s residence, is the only beautiful & entertaining park of the district. Here stands the Martello tower,built by the British rulers of Palur to defend their Raj here from the onslaughts of Santhal warriors who had waged struggle to drive out the Englishmen, tyrant Jamindars, and Banias of their land.

 

 

Nityakali Mandir

Nityakali Mandir  temple exists in the campus of Pakur Rajbari in the north middle of Pakur Town. It is very old. The shape of the statue is engraved on a big black stone. The people of this area used to pay their floral offerings to Goddess kali with great devotion. Its origin relates to Pakur Raj family. Its distance from Pakur Railway station is 2km.

 

 

Hot Spring

This natural fountain is fit in the place of Sidpur at the distance of 8km from Pakuria Block HQ. Through road link is not available but its importance from religious point of view is much more for Sapa Hore tribes. People of other community have a very pious view in taking bath in this hot spring especially on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.

 

 

Shiv Sheetla Mandir

The temple of lord Shiva & Shakti is one of the centers of attractions among the religious people of Hindu community. It is situated in the Southeast from Pakur Railway Station at the distance of ½ km.

Diwan-e-Pir

Diwan-e-Pir is situated in the northeast form Pakur Railway Station Between Pakur & Tilvitta. Muslims offer their prayers on the eve of their festivals at this holy place.

Birkitti

Birkitti is situated at the distance of 10km from Maheshpur Block HQ. There was a bitter battle fought between the local Rajput chief Raja Udit Narayan Singh & Nabab Murshid Kuli Khan of Murshidabad in the early 18th century. The ruins of the fort can still be seen.

Kanchangarah

This place is situated on the top of the hill in the deep forest at the distance of 18km from Littipara Block HQ. It is in oval shape having a very peculiar sound while echoed. It is said to be the ruling sit of then Paharia king in this region. But its history is not available. Though references are found in the local dialects, which may be treated as interpolation only.

Devinagar

Devinagar is situated at the distance of 16km in the Southwest from Maheshpur Block HQ. It contains the remnants of temples & houses said to have been built by local Raja Udit Narayan Singh. The ruins of tunnel, which once connected this place with village Birkitti, can still be seen.
