History

Mahasamund district is famous for its cultural history. This region was the capital of 'Dakshin Kosala' ruled by the 'Somvanshi Emperor', it is also a center of learning. Sirpur was formerly known as 'Sripur' in the time of the (Somvanshi emperors), and was the capital of Dakshin Kosala.
